Sheffield City Trust - Homepage Sheffield City Trust is a company limited by guarantee and a registered charity and is governed by its Memorandum and Articles of Association. The Trust was established in 1988 and is governed by a board of non-executive trustees, half of whom are nominated by Sheffield Members of Parliament and half of whom are nominated by the Sheffield Chamber of Commerce and Industry. A list of current Trustees is shown via the link above.
The objects of the charity include:
- To provide facilities for recreation and other leisure time occupation in the interests of social welfare for the general benefit of the inhabitants of Sheffield
- To promote good physical and mental health
- The encouragement of the Arts and the acquisition, preservation, restoration and maintenance of buildings of historic interest in Sheffield.
In furtherance of the Charity’s objects it operates the following venues:
The Charity has a wholly owned subsidiary, Sheffield International Venues Limited (SIVLTD, which operates the venues on behalf of the Trust. A number of management agreements exist with Sheffield International Venues Limited by which the activities of the Charity are managed and operated. Sheffield International Venues Limited has a subsidiary SIV Enterprises Limited which operates business outside of Sheffield.
The operation of leisure facilities is the primary way in which the main object of the Charity is achieved. The Trustees ensure that participation levels grow and benchmark attendance against national standards. Prices are set at a level that encourages use by as many people as possible and many facilities are full at peak times.
Attendance levels are high in the venues demonstrating the benefits of the Charity’s policy of seeking to maximise the potential of all users, whether community users or elite athletes, by encouraging use side by side in the same venues. Both the goals of participation and maximising potential contribute to the object of promoting and preserving good physical and mental health.
In addition the Charity’s facilities continue to be made available to other charitable organisations to assist them in raising funds. Events include the ‘Race for Life’ and Sheffield Half Marathon, both at Don Valley Stadium, and sponsored events at Ponds Forge ISC and English Institute of Sport, Sheffield.
The Charity continues to promote activities for the disabled. Regular weekly sessions are held for wheelchair basketball, disabled athletics and Mencap. Disability Sport England has continued to hire the Charity’s facilities in order to promote their events.
The Charity has made a number of grants of financial support to community groups in Sheffield in order to support their work in promoting sport, leisure and general physical health within their communities. Details of recent grants are shown on this website.
